How music can help us cope with the current Coronavirus pandemic

I am sharing this raw video cover from my bedroom (and in my sweatpants) of "I Am Light" by India Arie. I'm hoping it will inspire you to sing, take a music lesson, or at the very least brighten your day.

"We know that children who study music are better developed emotionally and have improved cognitive skills and executive function."

This pandemic has caused a lot of global anxiety and I’m finding that many of us are coming back to our roots and using music to heal and connect to higher consciousness. We become sacred instruments when we sing and participate in music with intention and purpose. I personally have been inspired and using this time in quarantine to write and record new songs.

I've always believed in the power of music. I witnessed its healing powers in my own life when I battled an auto-immune disease, and in countless experiences as a professional musician, teacher, and lately as a facilitator of music medicine.

We know that children who study music are better developed emotionally and have improved cognitive kills and executive function. A growing body of scientific research is proving time and again how music therapy can help manage a host of medical conditions including cancer and dementia, and has many healing benefits such as reducing depression, stress, anxiety, and pain.

Consider taking remote music lessons

- If you need help coping and want to use music to relieve anxiety and stress

- If you've always wanted to sing or learn to play piano and never had the time

- You are bored and want to try something different

- Your kids need an outlet to express themselves

- Because why not?
